나는 내가 살고 있는 도시에서 흔히 마주치는 일상적인 풍경에 관심을 가져왔다.
그것은 나에게 있어서 매우 한정적이며 반복적인 공간이지만 시간, 자연, 감정의 변화에 따라 매순간 다채로운 형상으로 다가오기 때문이다.
그 소소하지만 새롭게 펼쳐지는 다양한 공간의 모습을 관조적인 시선으로 그 역시 한정적 공간인 캔버스에 재구성 한 후 물감이라는 매체를 통해 칠하고 긁어내는 반복적인 과정을 통해 켜켜이 쌓여가는 우연과 의도의 또 다른 공간의 결과물로 표현하고 있다.
이번 전시에서 보여주는 작업은 빽빽이 존재하는 건축물들이 주변의 변화에 따라 전혀 다른 모습으로 나타나기도 하며 사라져 보이기도 하며 현실적으로는 안정적 이지만 불안정적으로 보이기도 하는, 물리적으로는 거대한 덩어리의 꽉 찬 외형으로 존재하지만 내부는 텅 빈 비물질적인 공간으로 느껴지는 상반된 감정을 선과 면의 분할, 확장 그리고 색을 쌓아가는 방법으로 조화를 추구하고자 하는 것이다.
나는 감상자들이 각기 다른 감정으로 나의 작품을 느끼길 바라며 그들만의 공간의 이야기를 만들기를 기대한다.
I’ve been captivated by the ordinary urban landscape with that I deal everyday in my city. Even though the space is mostly limited and repetitive for me, it comes in the diversified imagery every moment following the changes in time, nature and emotion. Whole new different spaces of coincidences and intentions accumulated are represented throughout continuous repetitive process of painting and scraping with colors as medium after reconstructing, in the contemplative view small but various spaces newly spread over in the city onto the canvas, which are considered quite limited either. This exhibition shows contrasting emotions and their harmonization brought from densely packed buildings, which appear in completely different form and disappear depending on change of surrounding environment, look stable in the reality but unstable somehow, and exist physically in full figuration but empty inside like an immaterial space. Indeed, I’ve been pursuing the harmony between them dividing and expanding lines and planes and stacking colors layers.
I hope that the audience will appreciate my paintings by their own way to feel the emotion and build up their own space story.
